HTTP Timeout - Explorer vs Firefox

I discovered that if you make a request, using URLLoader or other request type objects, if the connection fails to connect browsers react differently. The issue I've run into is with Firefox, it doesn't seem to have any time out. If it fails to connect you will never get an onFault, or onComplete response.

Has anyone else seen this? Is my best option to create my own Timer with a Timeout?

To reproduce: You can use the sample code provided on:
      http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/2/langref/flash/net/URLRequest.html#includeExamplesSummary

Change URLRequest("XMLFile.xml") to URLRequest(" http://www.google.com"), turn off your network connection, run your Flex App with Firefox and Explorer and see the difference.

      thanks
