ADOBE READER X error code 1203

Adobe Reader X (Ver 10.0) & previous version would not open file. Received message "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" and

IMAGE NOT AVAILABLE   displays instead of the downloaded document.  The TEMP file log indicates ERROR CODE 1203.

This version is installed on Windows XP platform Service Pack 3.  Document contains 58 pages text & images combined.   Problem appears to be with the TEMP file.  Any hints or solutions to this problem?
