Did you install InDesign Server on your developer machine from InDesignServer_7_LS1.dmg? I did and I got the same "Update is not applicable" error when trying to install the 7.0.3 patch from 05AdobeInDesignServer7Patch-All.dmg.
I resolved the problem by uninstalling InDesign Server, re-downloading InDesign Server 7 from Adobe (the download file is now called 01AdobeInDesignServer7-All.dmg, and is a different size from InDesignServer_7_LS1.dmg so it looks like there are actually 2 different versions of InDesign Server 7.0), reinstalling InDesign Server from 01AdobeInDesignServer7-All.dmg and then applying the 05AdobeInDesignServer7Patch-All.dmg patch.
Thanks Francis, I was able to update the developer version of IDS by following your instructions.
You wouldn't happen to know if this same problem will happen on a production version of IDS do you? We will be applying the update to two Production Servers that we have and I'm hoping we don't have to uninstall and reinstall them as well.
Our InDesign Server project hasn't gone live yet so we haven't installed the production version yet, so I'm afraid I'm not sure what you need to do to upgrade a production version of InDesign Server. In fact I wasn't aware that there was a separate production version although I have noticed the "developer version" watermarks on the PDFs I produce using InDesign Server. Does the production version use a different installer or is it just a case of using a different serial number with the same installer?
I'm pretty sure the installers are different. We downloaded both installers (dev/live) from our Adobe License account and they were seperate installers. I'm hoping that the Production Version will update using the 7.0.3 patch fine. I checked and it looks like the original production installer we downloaded is the exact same as the current installer available.
Would it be possible to give the link on adobe for the production version, i.e. "all".
I am thinking that the issue I have, of not being able to start adobe as a service, might be related to this. I have been able to download only the 7z version and could not find the all version.
Can't give a link to the production version, as your account should be registered to the Adobe liscensed installs (that you have liscenses to). The version available for the public is a trail version of IDS.
Our liscensed install only has one download for the production version, unlike the developer edition.

We are in the process of moving from cs3 to cs5. So I guess that I will have to wait resolving the service issue until we get it.
