PrE (all versions) will ONLY do a Capture from miniDV tape, and a device/camera hooked to the computer via FireWire. The option with other devices/cameras is to Copy their files, from their storage devices (miniDVD, flash memory, etc.) to the internal HDD, and use Get Media>Files & Folders.
What method are you attempting to use?
I want to connect a Canon T2i DSLR to the computer via USB to view, control and capture using PrE from the computer monitor - i.e. I want setup the camera equipment and stage and not touch anything but the puppets. I don't want to take a bunch of pictures on the camera and import them.
What I want to do is possible with, say Stop Motion Pro - and it works great, but I like the additional features of PrE. Looks like I'll be using Stop Motion Pro.
As I say in my books, capture is only available with tape-based camcorders. Camcorders that store to a hard drive, memory card or other storage (such as DSLRs) download their video using Get Media/From Hard Drive Camcorder.
Because of that, stop motion capture of video from DSLRs is not available in Premiere Elements.
Unless you are talking about using a series of photos from this camcorder to make an animation -- which is very different.
And PrPro is no different - Capture from miniDV tape only.
Now, it does have some additional features, that would get one closer with Stop Motion, but at ~ 6x the price, is not a viable alternative.
