    Going from CS5 32bit to CS5 64 bit

    Contemporary_Dave Community Member

I'm currently running CS5 on W7 32 bit. I'm intending to go to W7 64 bit. I purchased/downloaded CS5 from Adobe's site when it first came out. Do I have to go back to Adobe to get a 64bit version of CS5 or is the copy I've got already 64 bit?

Also does anyone know of any compatibility issues with using Nik Color Efex Pro 3 & Silver Efex Pro 1 via CS5 64 bit?

I'm not sure about the download installer, whether it includes the 64-bit version.  But if you were on a 32 bit OS, the 64-bit version would definitely not have been installed onto that system.  If you are on a 64-bit system you have the option of installing both versions.  Only the 32-bit version supports TWAIN drivers for scanning.  As per your other question(s) I'm not sure, someone else will have to respond.

P.S.  I'm speaking from the standpoint of the DVD installer.

The download software from Photoshop will install both 32 bit and 64 bit software on a 64 bit Windows system.

Keep in mind that plug-ins built for 32 bit Photoshop will not work in 64 bit Photoshop and vice versa.

However, many plug-in makers now provide an installer that will deliver either or both 32 and 64 bit builds, depending on which Photoshop versions you have installed.  You'll need to check with the plug-in makers (e.g., Nik) specifically to determine whether they support the 64 bit Photoshop.

A general rule of thumb is that if you didn't get the plug-in in the last few years, chances are it's 32 bit only (but the maker may have updates or a new version available).
