Well it's possible that having a slash in your folder name is causing the issue. I don't see the entire folder so it's hard for me to say whether or not the files are there.
Ideally post a link to the FW PNG file so we can inspect things more definitively.
you're making me laugh, trust me, they aren't in the folder. i've tried saving to other folders and the desktop. the apostrophe in my screen shot isn't it either because i only put that in for the pic ...
i don't know if this will help, but i uploaded this: http://michaelmckenna.net/Pace.png
i should make clear again that it just doens't want to do SELECTED slices. i've been able to get it to save some slices, just not what i want or anything useful, as in snippets of the background, for example, that i guess you could call "in between slices" or the "area in between slices" or whatever that pop-up menu selection is called. put another way, not selecting anything in particular to be sliced, it will save a mess into my folder (or any destination i have tried).
Well I'm glad you're having fun.
You have multiple overlapping slices, some of which are only one pixel in size. Slices should not overlap. It causes nothing but problems. That, tied in with the fact that you have one huge slice covering all your other slices, is what's causing the issue. Remove (not hide - remove) overlapping slices or edit the existing slices so they do not overlap.
so as long as i don't have slices too small and they don't overlap, it works great. it makes me wonder how would photoshop treat these issues? i can't even turn off certain slices, which i guess you figured that is what i tried and you are right ... what's the point to all this? making the slicing process easier is pretty important ...
the verdict it seems is not user error, you just have to be sensitive to delicate fireworks!
I don't slice designs in Photoshop. FW does a much better job of compressing files, but feel free to go that route if you prefer.
Glad you have the rest figured out in your own mind.
Best of luck.
in my own mind, eh?
i always like how you could enter in pixels height, width, x, y with flash, so i like that feature very much. i read about the compression difference, so i'll stick it out for a while. i never liked photoshop for this sort of work anyway.
i notice a selection in the slice export that mentions layers. it didn't work for me. now wouldn't it be nice if the program would just pile up layers nicely into images and not have to even redraw with a slice? does it do that already? i think it does, not ...
