I make one row, then use the palce mulitiple and end up form fields with a hierachical named fields.
you sir are my hero!
Why isnt this documented better :S
Or maybe it's cause I'm simple...
Sorry, point still stands
It did make it a lot easier, BUT (and it's a BIG BUT)
Rows of fields that are named NotesRow1.1-NotesRow1.12 on page 1
I copy that and make the top field NotesRow1.13 on page 2
Duplicate down and it becomes NotesRow1.13.0 - NotesRow1.13.34
Instead of continuing down the NotesRow1.14, 1.15, etc...
20 elements across x 34 down = a LOT of misnamed elements that I'm not fixing manually !!
Much thanks though - that did save me a huge amount of time~!
You could create a blank page that's as tall/wide as you need it to be to contain all of your fields, and then copy & paste just certain fields to the pages of your form. This way you won't have to do any renaming.
Makes sense - fortuneatly doesnt matter
But sometimes that could mean replacing all the items - which may have no easy grid-like structure.
If you have access to Acrobat 5 (the best Acrobat ever), you can increment the "sequence number" by pressing the + key on the numeric keypad. You start with a field named myField.0, press +, and you get myField.1
probably not HTH … hehe
Don't remind us, Max!
Yeah this is becoming a real issue
Need to be able to do Mass Renamings of Field Names!
Any help would be appreciated!
I don't understand your comments in post #5. Can you clarify what the problem is now?
I have a grid-like structure with rows of data. In that there are text fields + check boxes
To make a 'page 2' of this, I could easily search and rename the field variable values (which start with 'p1_' incidentally)
But instead, have to delete the multiple rows that are under row 1
Go through & manually edit all the names of teh first row to 'p2_'
Duplicate down the 50 times
Now because it doesnt line up to the form, I have to move the bottom row to position, and column by column align vertically
Takes a good 20 minutes per page
I have to create 10 pages, each with their own field variable values = 200 minutes, instead of the 2 minutes it should take with a simple search & replace...
