Is there a way to take two files doc_left.pdf and doc_right.pdf to create a single new file named doc_combined.pdf?
I found a script (MultipageImporter-2.5.jsx) that imports pdf/indd files into a new indd file. And then I could export that
file. But i'm looking for something without this extra step.
InDesign cannot work directly with PDFs, so yeah, you would place both PDFs in a new ID doc and export that again.
Perhaps you should look at Acrobat. With that, it's not even worth trying to script it, since combining PDFs is a standard feature.
Jongware is definitively right, forget scripting on this one and use acrobat combining feature
With Acrobat you can 'add pages' and 'split pages' very easily. You can set the view options to put them side by side but they are still 2 pages. What I think you are asking for is 'imposition' placing the data from both PDFs within one PDF page's bounding boxes. Im almost certain that this can't be done in the version of Acrobat that I have. But its worth checking out anyhow… there may be some new features that can do this now?
