    Elements 8 & processing power

Does Photoshop Elements 8 use the the cpu for processing or the graphics card? I'm finding plug-ins very slow. I've an intel dual core 2.33ghz processor, 8gigs of ram and 2x geforce 8600gt sli'd together. Is it worth me upgrading the graphics card or won't it make a difference? thanks.

I don’t think elements makes any great use of the GPU, relying mainly on the Intel multi-core chip. As it’s a 32 bit program the amount of RAM it can utilize is also limited.

If you have more than one internal hard drive you can allocate the second drive as an additional scratch disk. Elements will then use that when memory gets low. You can also increase the amount of RAM allocated to Elements but don’t go above 90% as you need to run other programs.

          Go to Edit >Preferences >Performance

Then check the items under Scratch Disks, as appropriate.
