I m going to be making videos for the web mostly and some for standard def. Nothing super fancy. I getting a new laptop and I been looking at Sager. I cant really spend more then $2000.00 I need to know if I will be able to do the basics at a reasonable speed for what I have selected below. Here are my 2 options. It's for a new job. If you think I can scale back or I need to scale up let me know. I need it to be as reasonable as possible. The CPU seems to change the price does it matter which one? Will both work? Do I need windows 7 Pro or can home work? Looking to save if I can.
Option 1 Cost: $1,914.00
Option 2 Cost: $2,324.00
Remember I m mostly producing web videos but I want to learn AE as well. I appreciate the help.
Also I forgot to say it is for CS5 and this is my first time with this software. Just learning
I haven't yet seen results on the 2630QM, so I am not sure how fast it is. One can safely assume it will work. It will be significantly slower than the 2600K, because of the much lower clock speed (2.0 versus 3.4). The 960 is the better CPU, but in your second option it is severly limited by only 6 GB memory. If the version with 12 GB does not add sizably to the price (3 x 2 should be only slightly less expensive than 3 x 4), option 2 would have my preference.
Win7 Pro and Home will both work, but remember that Home is limited to 16 GB memory max.
Just saw some benchmark results. CPU Passmark test for the i7-2630QM is 4,546, the i7-950 scores 6,349 so it is safe to assume the i7-960 is more than 40% faster. Especially for AVCHD material that is a very noticeable performance difference. The i7-2630QM is comparable in performance to a Q9550 and that is considered a slow CPU.
