1. Re: Removal of Image metadata
Marian Driscoll Feb 21, 2011 1:27 PM (in response to Tom Marantette)Tom, you posted in the worst possible place (a 2-y-o discussion) to have your question answered. Your post seems really out of place, especially if you had reviewed the original post in this discussion. What does the title of "How to get help quickly" have anything to do with metadata? Review the tips and then start a new forum topic.

When you Post:- Make sure the subject title for your new topic describes the problem you are having.
Naming the topic "Help!!!" or "Question" or "newbie here" doesn't tell us what that thread contains, and will most likely result in your thread being overlooked by the people that can best help you.
Also, when searching for a particular key-word, it is easier to find the topic of interest when it has an appropriate title: Titling your threads properly will help other members better find what they need.
- Make sure you include all relevant details in your post, such as:
- The exact version of the Adobe Application you are running.
- Your Operating System details.
- Amount of installed RAM.
- Amount of free disk space.
- Make/Model of Video Card.
- Printer Details if you have a print problem
- The EXACT text of any Error Messages you saw.
- Precise symptoms of your problem
- Make sure the subject title for your new topic describes the problem you are having.

Tom Marantette Feb 21, 2011 2:23 PM (in response to Marian Driscoll)Gee Marian,
I am so very sorry!!! As this is my first posting and from your comment may be my last - all that I am trying to get help with is the removal of my camera metedata from an image while in Photoshop. Rather than commenting on the format that I used, I would really appreciate getting some direction in solving this concern.

Why would it be your last when I pointed you to posting in the proper place (a new thread)? Are you just giving up? That seems silly.

PECourtejoie Feb 21, 2011 2:45 PM (in response to Marian Driscoll)I just split the thread. Let's focus on the issue.
tmarantette, you state that you want to delete the metadata while in Photoshop.
Do you mean to remove the metadata from a layer, and keep the file in PSD? or do you want to save to another format?
Save for web can strip all metadata, but you would save to a jpg, a png, or a gif.

Jeff Schewe Feb 21, 2011 3:14 PM (in response to PECourtejoie)Save for Web or in the alternative, manually copy and paste the image data into a new file saved in any format you want. The EXIF metadata is designed to be persistent unless you take extreme measures to remove it. What is your reason for removing it?

6. Re: Removal of Image metadata
Tom Marantette Feb 21, 2011 4:46 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Thanks for getting back to me Jeff . On images I send out to stock companies or places llike Facebook, I did not want all of my camera specific data being displayed. It is just me and privacy.
Best regards.

- JM - Feb 21, 2011 7:34 PM (in response to Tom Marantette)hi Tom
I use one of 2 techniques.
A simple ps action > select all> copy> create new> paste
you can assign a command key to this action to make it easier.
the other is to use Exiftool, a little more to setup and get to accustomed to, but allows for easy modification of exif fields using a saved text file. This is effective if you have multiple files to remove and replace info. Google Exiftool.
good luck

PS.Fan Feb 22, 2011 6:31 AM (in response to Tom Marantette)Tom,
I do agree that Exif Tool by Phil Harvey is fine if you're going to remove image metadata. And if you do not want to deal with its command line interface, I commend to look at this EXIF remover. The good that it has a nice GUI and enables to delete tags selectively - that's useful to keep online privacy, and leave general fields intact.
By the way, I would like to see a full featured (batch) EXIF editor in the next version of Photoshop.

- JM - Feb 22, 2011 8:38 AM (in response to PS.Fan)is there a Mac exifCleaner coming out?
>I would like to see a full featured (batch) EXIF editor in the next version of Photoshop.
I think they are still busy writing 64 bit plugins : )
I'm actually surprised that there aren't other Mac exif editors with a GUI from other 3rd parties on the market. Seems like a nice project for someone. I see that ACDsee has included some exif editing in their new Mac version.

12. Re: Removal of Image metadata
Tom Marantette Feb 22, 2011 10:38 AM (in response to - JM -)It would be nice to have one. Unfortunately I am still learning to "tie my shoes" with Photoshop much less knowing anything about EXIF. Good luck in finding this editor.

Sorry about hijacking the thread and heading off into the woods. The earlier recommendation to use SaveForWeb from PECourtejoie would be the best method for you. This would save a separate file without the metadata.
