    Is Shockwave needed?

Almost certainly a lack of understanding, so would be grateful for guidance.

I created a Director projector containing Shockwave 3D models. I installed the latest Full Shockwave player (not the slim version) on the target PC along with the Director projector, but the models were missing, clicking where the models should have appeared produced' Script error'.

I found that I had omitted to include the xtras, NetFile.x32, NetLingo.x32 and INetURl.x32.
Including these in the projector resulted in the Shockwave models appearing and behaving correctly.

My queries are, why do the Net... files make the models appear and function correctly and am I correct in thinking that the Shockwave Player doesn't actually need to be installed?

      Thanks in advance.
