Premiere would be 10 times better if...

Well the subject is the prompt for those who run CS5. A joint production  of mine is pitching a tv show at the moment to a few agencies and since  I'm the guy who is the technical/post end, I want to ask this question  as a way of fleshing out everyday work limitations. We're going to  increase the number of premiere workstations we have from 2, to probably  6 with central network storage. We usually film tv commercials, internal corporate videos, music videos, and shorter personal projects, so with all projects the workflow and amount of work and footage is extremely managable.

For our uses (broadcast quality equipment with timecode for a multi-camera  reality), the recent upgrade to support BWF and its timecode is  AMAZING as that was a hurdle for its heavy consideration for this project.

I would love (and I've submitted all of these as feature requests)
      1) Better VST audio plugin support in Premiere (this may be double edged as maybe VST plugins need to be programmed to standard more often).
      2) The ability to export/dynamic link all audio tracks to a multi-track  sequence in Audition or Soundbooth (probably requiring an upgrade for  those as well)
      3) Final Cut/Avid style subclips, so I can create subclips with the dual system's audio recordings after timecode sync.
      4) Color Management. While I can conform in After Effects, it makes it  harder if a locked edit has to be unlocked, and I would love to do it  straight in Premiere.

Where do you feel it is still a bit weak when handling larger and more complicated projects?

Though of no real benefit to me personally, I feel that full network support should be a priority. I see this as a hinderance in edit-suite commercial production, and even more so in academic environments. I have filed feature requests to that end, as we see many, who would directly benefit.

I will be interested to read what others think would be benefits, and also to see the responses from Todd, Dennis, Jeremy and others from Adobe. While they will not be able to comment directly on what Adobe is doing, their thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

          Good luck,

Bill, we definitely do see value in improving the ability of people to work and collaborate across networks. It's something that we're looking into quite seriously. If you have specifics that the you want to lobby for, let us know.

              Todd,

I do not have any "pet" aspect. My situation is not really open to a networked environment for PrPro work, though I am networked.

I see so many requests, however, from either professors, or IT folk, with academic labs, who need to be networked, and then to allow for the students to use PrPro, though through limited accounts, and such, that I feel it would be great to be able to accommodate them, at least to some degree. Some of the requests are for unique situations, and setups, but some common threads are: Assets on a common, networked drive and the ability to have users at below an Administrator level.

Neither of those would apply to me, but would be great for others. I would love to see Adobe more heavily involved in the academic situations with PrPro, as that would translate to more potential sales, when the students go out into the workforce. You have shared with us, as has Dennis, a committment for a greater academic presence for PrPro, over years past. I applaud that committment, and would love to see even more academic placements.

For me personally, I could see use for a render farm setup - though have more time on my hands nowadays, so it's less of an issue now, than in years past. I just hang out here, while Exports are being done on the workstation.

              Thanks for the response.
