Steve Grisetti Feb 26, 2011 7:19 AM (in response to junior166)If you're trying to create a high-quality playback fro Windows Media Player, the AVI is probably not your best choice.
The best you'll get from an AVI is a DV-AVI -- which is good, but it also such a large file that it will likely play poorly on a typical computer. (Saving it as an uncompressed AVI is even worse! You get no better quality, but you do get a file that's 5 times as large!)
You should be using the WMV 640x480 output. This is still a pretty large file, so many medium powered or low end computers may still have some trouble playing it. And it won't work at all online. But it will get you the best quality for a Windows Media file.

Bill Hunt Feb 26, 2011 7:36 AM (in response to junior166)Junior,
I agree with Steve, on the choice of Export/Share formats.
For the program hanging, or crashing, see this ARTICLE, as it will help address that issue.
Good luck,
Hunt

junior166 Feb 26, 2011 7:47 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)I don't think you understood my question...I cannot enter into the advance options of the "share to PC Computer" to tweak settings on any of the Quicktime, Mpeg, AVI, etc, when I click on it comp freezes...all I can do is use the presets PreE came with after restarting PreE, never did it before and was able to do this on many previouse projects with no problems all of a sudden I can't anymore....
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual 4400
4 x 250HD
1gigs Graphic card
3gigs Memory
XP Service Pack 3
and I run my comp very lean for editing...

Steve Grisetti Feb 26, 2011 8:00 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I would also ensure I've got my drives defragmented and that both drives are formatted NTFS.
You should also ensure you've got the latest version of Quicktime, and go to Windows Update and click the Custom button to ensure you have even the non-critical updates.
If something used to work but suddenly doesn't, it's nearly always a sign that you've either run out of contiguous space on your hard drive or an important element of your system is out of date.

5. Re: Advance Option Not Working In Share
junior166 Feb 26, 2011 10:03 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)Windows is always updated as well as Quicktime, I use my 4th drive strickly for PreE 8 project as well as storing my footage, had been doing it this way since PreE 4 and drive is always fragmented. Like I said before, I keep my machine lean with processes and antivirus turned off. I am thinking of just re-installing PreE 8.

6. Re: Advance Option Not Working In Share
junior166 Feb 26, 2011 12:16 PM (in response to junior166)Well I did a clean re-install PreE 8 even going as far as the registry and deleting all related keys, updating PreE 8 and adding all content. It didn't change a thing...I still can't go to the advance options of Share: Personal Computer and use any custom setting I like...all I can do is just use it's presets...it is a mystery to me why I can't go to those options anymore since yesterday after making many previous computer files...I'm very disapointed with Adobe PreE 8....Thinking of moving to it's competition unless someone here can figure it out for me....
Thanks

Steve Grisetti Feb 26, 2011 2:20 PM (in response to junior166)You have definitely got something misconfigured on your system somewhere.
So if it's not worth the effort to dig around, maybe it is time to consider another product. Sorry.

junior166 Feb 27, 2011 6:26 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)I went to the related issue articles to see if there were anything I missed but nothing I haven't taken care of already. How else would I go about digging as you say? where would you be looking after reading that article? Any ideas as what to do now at this point?

Steve Grisetti Feb 27, 2011 7:00 AM (in response to junior166)I would recommend a call to Adobe Tech Support.
You need some one-on-one troubleshooting.

Ted Smith Feb 27, 2011 7:28 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)I found having PE on one disk, projet files on a second disk and the footage on a third made a huge difference performance and stability. Otherwise PE is trying to find the instructions frame by frame what to play and the material at the same time on different parts of the same disk. Your disk track seek speed may not be fast enoough with all on one disk,

junior166 Feb 27, 2011 3:49 PM (in response to Ted Smith)Ted,
I stated in a previous post that I have 4 x 250 SATA drives drive C: is for OS and programs, my next 3 drives are F: photo and music, G: business docs, software downloads, etc. H: 250 gigs (120gigs usable space) PreE projects. I create 1 folder per project and I store everything in it that pertains to that project so that when I have completed I can burn the entire PreE project files to disc so in case I want to go back sometime in the future and re-do it I have that option of doing so. Been doing this since PreE 2 and had no problems with any issues until the day before my original post.

12. Re: Advance Option Not Working In Share
nealeh Feb 27, 2011 4:22 PM (in response to junior166)Something must have changed in that 24 hour period. Perhaps a Windows update, or installation of new software. If you have a system restore point from the time when it worked properly you should rollback to see if that cures the problem. If it was me I would also create a new restore point first, reflecting your system as it is now. Then, if rollback does not work, you can roll forward.
Cheers,
