How do I eliminate an imaginary (invisible) menu?

    zorrocbr Community Member

I went to build an image and when testing it came across a slew of menu items with no links.  The only problem is that it is a menu that I didn't want in this project, and one I can't get to in the project to delete it.  It is not listed in the assets.

It was a pop- up menu that somehow got imported into the project and I was able to delete all but the Page 0.  (I got there from the test page and highlighting one of the "missing links." (Now it shows up in menus but not in assets.)   I deleted all the buttons so it is just a bare menu, but I can't clear this so it shows as an orphan menu.  Short of rebuilding everything from scratch or simply creating a dummy link to this menu and then only one button on this menu linking back to the top menu (to eliminate the orpan menu issue and essentially neutralize it so I really never see it), how do I eliminate it?

      Encore CS5

      Windows 7 64 BIT

      Quad 4 2.4ghz processor

      500 GB hard drive space

      6 GB memory

I don't recall if this has any different twists for blurary, but one option is to ignore the phantom menu.  See if the disk builds okay.  The check project issue is a warning,  not an error as such.

It sounds like you've been creative in trying to select and delete from as many options as you can find.

But it worries me that you had a slew of these.  I think that makes it more likely that there is other corruption.

It also worries me that you were able to delete buttons, etc; the phantom menu problem always seemed like you couldn't quite get it selected to delete it.  I may be wrong about that.

I would also consider this suggestion from Jeff to try deleting the AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder.

I was only able to get to the Phantom Menu in Encore after clicking on one of the "missing links" that came up in the check project stage.  Once I did that the menu showed up in the menu drop down list but not in the asset list.  It gets better.  So I went to the last page of my good pop up menu and added a right button next page arrow and then linked this to the Phantom Menu.  On the Phantom Menu I added a buttom for Main Menu to link me back to the Top menu just in case somehow I got to the phantom menu when playing the disk and got trapped there with no hope for escape.  I built the disk, it plays back fine.  I went to the last page of my pop up menu and clicked on the next page button..... and NOTHING.  It never went to the Phantom menu.  (Good results for me because I didn't want it anyway, but just WEIRD).

I would do a search for "phantom menu" on this forum. There are many similar threads, and many ways that users have been able to work, when this happens, plus discussions on how it can happen. Some go back to before BD, but some include BD discussions.

              Good luck,
