Stan Jones Feb 28, 2011 7:18 PM (in response to nados)First you Edit Quality Preset, make your custom settings and save as a custom preset, THEN select that preset once you save it.

nados Feb 28, 2011 8:10 PM (in response to Stan Jones)JIm & Stan,
ok... as i understand it then... "Edit Quality Presets" just allows you to create or modify transcode settings. So i can either use the transcode presets or roll my own.
Thanks for the refresh.

Stan Jones Mar 1, 2011 6:03 AM (in response to nados)Just FYI. The CS5 does not change the answer to your question. But it took me a while to realize that a new feature in CS5 is the ability to tell Encore to use Adobe Media Encoder for transcoding when using the Transcode Now option. I don't have data ragarding quality, but that means it uses the 64 bit AME rather than the 32 bit Encore engine.

7. Re: transcode settings vs edit quality presets
nados Mar 1, 2011 12:27 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Well... that's good to know.
I wanted to see what kind of visual quality difference there would be, so I checked the "Use Maximum Render Quality" check box in the "Transcode Settings" window for a 105 minute DVD. It has been encoding for a 27 hours and is still not finished. It took only about a 1/2 to 3/4 hours to encode a DVD and about 2 hours for a BRD without "Use Maximum Render Quality" checked. WOW!
I'll try the "Use Maximum Render Quality" setting again with the 64bit AME set in Encore preferences. But it looks like it only works when using "Transcode Now" and not when doing a automatic build operation.

That is correct.
There are a lot of posts regarding the pros and cons of "maximum render quality" in the Premiere forums. I thought it only related to whether preview files were used, but it is more significant than that. You also get into issues of whether the full mpe capabilities are used. So explore further....
I don't use hardware mpe yet, so I have not paid as much attention.
