3. Re: Confirmation on correct Encore settings for Canon H1 footage.
Ann Bens Mar 10, 2011 8:22 AM (in response to nados)I think filming in 60i is your best option especially if you want to make BD.
Drop the 30f footage in a HDV sequence 1080i60.
Export to H.264 BluRay either in 1440 or HDTV preset and import this file into Encore.
Cant answer on drop frame as i am in pal-land.

4. Re: Confirmation on correct Encore settings for Canon H1 footage.
nados Mar 10, 2011 10:51 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Ann, Thanks for responding...
The project is already edited using multiple nested sequences and i'm not about to re-edit it. I tried to replace the nested 30p sequences with 60i sequences but things got messed up so i stopped that idea.
I'll just chaulk it up to a lesson learned. For the next fast moving dance show, i will...
1. set the Canon H1 to shoot in HD 60i. (no conversion from CCD to Tape)
2. create 1080i30 (60i) sequence project instead of 1080p30. (no conversion of 60i footage to 30p in sequences)
3. capture settings: This is the only foggy part as there is no Canon H1 selection in the device control settings of the capture panel. I assume that Premiere is capturing the Canon H1 firewire output correctly.
4. I think it's better to import the Premiere Pro edited sequences from Encore via Dynamic Link because you can import the entire folder of sequences at one time. You can't do that from Premiere. Premiere only allows you to send one sequence at a time to Encore.
5. in default transcode settings, set the maximum video/audio bitrate to 35 Mbps and codec to H.264. (in case i use automatic transcoding)
6. create a custom Encore Transcode setting from the "1440x1080i 29.97 MQ H.264" preset using "VBR, 2 pass" and decreasing the target bitrate Mbps as little as possible to maintain maximum quality while still being able to fit the project on a blu-ray disc.
7. Set preferences to transcode using AME to take advantage of the 64bit engine.
8a. to use "Maximum Render Quality" or not... that is the question. I tried it and did not see much if any difference in quality.
8b. to use "Frame blending" or not... that is the question. I tried it and did not see much if any difference in quality.
9. transcode now!
What do you think?
