Need help understanding the gradient tool

    web.boards Level 1

I'm creating a linear gradient with 4 stops, and I like the effect it is creating, though I am not entirely sure how it is working. There is a vertical line that I can control for the gradient that runs from top to bottom on the shape.

      1. Is adjusting where the vertical gradient line lies on the shape another way of adjusting the gradient stops?

      2. If so, when do you want to adjust the vertical line vs. playing with the stops? Is it just a matter of preference?

      Thank you.
