Prop Bitmap DLL failed to load

I tried googling this problem and search these forums and couldn't find any info, so I'm posting this here.

I'm having a problem with my printer in Photoshop CS5.  When I go to print something and click on "Print Settings" in the Print dialog box I get the message: "ERROR: Prop Bitmap DLL not loaded."  I then am not allowed to adjust things like print quality.

My printer is a Dell AIO Photo 964 printer and I have all the latest drivers.

My computer is a Dell XPS 400, Pentium Dual Core 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM.

My OS is WIndows XP 32-bit.

      Thanks for any help!

Have you installed the latest Photoshop update (12.0.3 at the moment)?

There were some security-oriented changes in one of the Photoshop updates that could cause some components of improperly written drivers to fail to load.  Mostly people reported problems against scanners, but it's not inconceivable that a printer could be affected.

The workaround for most of these kinds of problems was to add the folder containing the components of the driver to the Windows PATH, as I recall.

            Thanks Noel Carboni!

I do have the latest update (12.0.3).

But, I went ahead and tried what you suggested and located the prop bitmap DLL file elsewhere on my computer and copied it into the main WINDOWS file.  Voila!

            It worked!

Thanks so much for your help!

              You're welcome.

Copying a file into the Windows folder can work as well, though you may need to remember you did that and undo it if you ever get a driver update for your printer.

Oh!  I thought me putting it in the Windows folder was what you meant.  I've never dealt with the Windows PATH before.  I'll have to do some googling to figure out how to do it the other way.  I may get a new printer soon and chances are good that I'll forget what I did. haha.

                Anyway, thanks again!
