I don't know what problems you read about, but Camera Raw 6.3 seems to work just fine.
Are you trying to get support for a camera that you don't currently have? If not, I suggest waiting for the release. Beta software can sometimes be twitchy.
Have you tried installing the 6.3 update from the standalone updater?
I have tried to instal the 6.3 standalone, but I get the same error message as the 6.4RC1, which is "update not valid".
It looks like there are similar problems on 6.4 as with the 6.3 http://forums.adobe.com/message/3326508
I think you may be making the leap that an inability to install on your system is a problem with the Adobe installer. The camera raw updates seem to install just fine for most folks.
I assume your automatic update process isn't working either. That may indicate a permissions issue or something basic.
I have heard there are installer logs you can look into to get more detailed information. Unfortunatetly I don't know where those are as I haven't had to investigate any install failures on my systems - they've all gone in just fine. Perhaps someone else here canl identify these logs.
Let's try to diagnose some basic things on your system...
- What OS are you running?
- How big, in bytes, is the Camera Raw 6.3 updater zip file you downloaded? The one I got was 36,493,878 bytes.
- Are you able to unzip the contents of the updater zip file successfully to a temporary folder?
What I'm thinking here is that we want to make sure your download is not being corrupted somehow.
Thanks for helping me with this issue
The automatic update doesnt work. Meaning its not starting up. A new version of the extension manager arrived and installed fine just some minutes ago.
My system is OS X 10.6.6 and I have CS5 collection pluss Lightroom. I pretty shure I have all apps updated.
The 6.3 installer is 79 125 773 byte and mounts as diskimage.
I have the folder AdobePatchFiles with content.
I have put a empty file navmed ribs3debug in my macs temp folder. Its path: Macintosh HD/private/tmp/
tried both the 6.1 6.2 6.3 and the 6.4RC, but both endes with the error "update not valid"
Oh, sorry, I boneheadedly assumed you were using a PC. I'm not expert in Mac operations, unfortunately. Hopefully someone who is can jump in here.
It is very unfortunate that you are not able to apply ACR updates. One possible workaround can be by re-installing CS5 then try updating ACR. This should possibly work, if it still does not then please provide us with the latest installer logs as the current logs provided show 6.1 patch updates.
Where would the installer logs be found?
You can find installer logs at
for Mac: /Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers
for Windows: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers

In Photoshop, go to Help - Updates - Preferences and make sure the box for ACR is checked.
Worked for me on my Mac, when ACR 6.3 failed to install.
For some reason I had unchecked all apps, but DW in the update manager. Checked ACR and 6.3 is now installed. Still the standalone dident work, but why I have unchecked my apps. Cant realy say.
Here is the 6.3 log, if of any interest
