Yes there's a public MAC beta - simply because it's never been released on a Mac before, and that's the only reason. There is no public beta for the PC version, as usual. Yes there's a scheduled release date, but none of us have any idea when it will be (not even the beta testers). If you purchase Audition 3, then you will get a hefty upgrade discount on 4 anyway, and 3 will continue to work fine as well - which you may find useful.

Yes there is a private beta, but I can also tell you that you should read absolutely nothing into that at all - seriously. This is one of the reasons that it's private, in fact; just so that people don't read anything into it. I'm only mentioning it at all because it's a matter of public knowledge that if there's a public beta of an Adobe product, the chances of there not being a private one previously is about zero!
