    template and ssi

    skowhegan Level 1
I have an an include on the following page and it works perfectly.
However when I make a template the include does not show. What am I not doing?
Here is a page made from the template.

      Thanks,
      Nancy

What does the code look like? I'm guessing that the link is wrong....

              Hi Murray,
I must be linking wrong but I cannot figure out how. When I make a page and keep it on root level of this site it works fine.

But when I try to put a file into a folder that is when it does not work.

              Thanks,
              Nancy

The link to the include file should be a virtual link, e.g.,

                <!--#include virtual="/whatever.html" -->

All links in the file being included should be root relative.

Is that the case for you?

                  Hi Murray,
Sorry I ddi not see this reply and I asked for help again.
I have made the link to the include virtual and it still does not help. I think all my other links are relative. Here is my code.

                  Here are the links again.

I got it. Thanks. I did not have a template at the root level of my school site. The school site is confusing since we have subsites. Thank you for your help. You are always great to me.

You're welcome. I'm puzzled by what you mean about not having a template at
the root of your site, though.

I will try to explain although you can see the site managment of the school site is confusing to me.

We have the root site of our school as http://www.org

I have access to that site. However other teachers have access to subsites that are set up. One it is this middle school site. That teacher has only access to http://www.org/sams. I have a template at the root <msad54.org>. The template is for sams.dwt. I have the include file there also. If I put the include file at the <msad54.org/sams level the page does not work.

Am I as all clear? I would love to have that teacher at sams site be able to edit that incude file but she does not have access to it. if I make a copy and put in in her sams folder it does not update at the root.

Any ideas about what I am doing wrong? We do not want to give teacher access to the root.

                                  that root site was

                                  Sams site was

This is a nightmare scenario. I have made several suggestions to the DW
team that some mechanism for dealing with it be added to DW. I'll see if I
can direct someone to this thread....
