2. Using "advanced HTML"
L Hickle Jun 6, 2007 3:38 PM (in response to L Hickle)I have not uploaded the Dreamweaver version of the page yet; what would be the best procedure for making it available for you to peek at? The FrontPage version of the page is at South Fulton Argus
You should be able to see the "stickers" in question there, if that helps. -
3. Re: Using "advanced HTML"
Newsgroup_User Jun 6, 2007 6:04 PM (in response to L Hickle)Your first challenge would be to rip out those nasty 'hover' buttons and
replace them with something more universally acceptible. Hover buttons rely
on Java (not javascript), and most people DO NOT HAVE IT INSTALLED any
longer. Furthermore, they aren't supported in anything other than IE - for
example, in Firefox, I see no navigation at all along the left side. I'd
say that this is the MOST important thing for you to do.
The next thing would be to get rid of all the inline CSS, and the <font>
tags, as well as the gazillion instances of Office markup in there.
But on re-reading your post, I see that you are building the pages anew from
scratch anyhow, so that's the best thing.

Can you show us the code for these, and tell us where you want them to
appear?

4. Re: Using "advanced HTML"
Newsgroup_User Jun 6, 2007 6:15 PM (in response to L Hickle)Oh, good grief - I see them both on your page. So - what's the problem?
Here's the code for the weather thing -
Start with this -
<!-- Start WxSticker -->
and end with this -
<!-- End WxSticker -->
and here's the Amber alert -
<a href=" http://www.amberillinois.com" target="_blank" title="Illinois AMBER
Alert"><img
src=" http://www.amberillinois.com/activeAMBERimage/TargetAMBERalert.gif"
width="160" height="116" border="0" title="Illinois AMBER Alert" /></a>
which is between this -
<!--webbot bot="HTMLMarkup" startspan -->
and this -
<!--webbot bot="HTMLMarkup" endspan -->
Are you comfortable enough in code to just place those on the page?

5. Using "advanced HTML"
L Hickle Jun 6, 2007 6:20 PM (in response to L Hickle)I don't know if this will help explain anything, but here is the HTML code I was given to recreate the weather sticker. I'm just not entirely sure how to implement it correctly.
<!-- Start WxSticker -->
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width: 271px; background-color: #FFF; border: 1px solid #999;"><tr><td colspan="2"><div style="height: 35px;"><a href=" http://www.wunderground.com/US/IL/Astoria.html?bannertypeclick=htmlSticker"><img src=" http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/htmlSticker1/language/www/US/IL/Astoria.gif " alt="" height="35" width="271" style="border: 0px;"></a></div></td></tr><tr><td style="vertical-align: top;"><div style="width: 101px;"><div style="height: 22px;"><img src=" http://icons-aa.wunderground.com/graphics/smash/htmlsticker/html_linkT.gif" width="101" height="22"></div><div style="font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; background-image: url( http://icons-aa.wunderground.com/graphics/smash/htmlsticker/html_linkBG.gif); text-align: left;"><div style="padding-left: 10px;"><a href=" http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KMQB/1972/1/1/PlannerHistory.html?PlannerFront Page=1&bannertypeclick=htmlSticker">Plan your trip</a></div><div style="padding-left: 10px;"><a href=" http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=ILX®ion=b4&lat=40.22734833&lon=-90.35 280609">Local Radar</a></div><div style="padding-left: 10px;"><a href=" http://www.wunderground.com/US/IL/Astoria.html?bannertypeclick=htmlSticker">Detailed Forecast</a></div><div style="height: 12px;"><img src=" http://icons-aa.wunderground.com/graphics/smash/htmlsticker/html_linkB.gif" width="101" height="12"></div></div><form action=" http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast" method="get" target="_blank" style="margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: center;"><input type="hidden" name="bannertypeclick" value="htmlSticker"><div><input name="query" type="text" value="Find Weather" onFocus="this.value=''" style="width: 85px;"></div><div style="padding-top: 5px;"><input name="GO" type="submit" value="GO" style="width: 50px; background-color: #008; color: #FFF; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; border-top: 1px solid #CCC; border-left: 1px solid #CCC; border-right: 1px solid #000; border-bottom: 1px solid #000;"></div></form></div></td><td style="vertical-align: top;"><div style="height: 139px;"><a href=" http://www.wunderground.com/US/IL/Astoria.html?bannertypeclick=htmlSticker"><img src=" http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/htmlSticker2_cond/language/www/US/IL/Astori a.gif" alt="" height="139" width="170" style="border: 0px;"></a></div></td></tr></table>
<!-- End WxSticker --> -
6. Re: Using "advanced HTML"
L Hickle Jun 6, 2007 7:27 PM (in response to L Hickle)Sorry Murray; I must have cross-posted with you. My grasp on HTML code is very shaky yet. I understand the basics, but have to study it very hard to follow along. My thought is that I should create a table and place that code in a single cell. Is that a good start? -
7. Re: Using "advanced HTML"
L Hickle Jun 6, 2007 8:00 PM (in response to L Hickle)I have temporarily turned my Personal Web Sharing on, so that you can see the page I'm working on. Please keep in mind this is just the beginning of the process, and that most of the links do not work yet, other than Home, Calendar and Current Obits. And for some reason, no matter how I try, the big photo reprint button and our company logo are no longer showing up either (arrgh). You can access the page at http://172.16.0.20/~lhickle2/ . -
8. Re: Using "advanced HTML"
Newsgroup_User Jun 7, 2007 4:21 AM (in response to L Hickle)That would be a start, yes. Make sure you do that operation while in CODE
VIEW.
