    Need to build a system asap..Please advise:-)

    Steve from NY Level 1

      I presently have a 3 year old:

      * Win 7pro 64 bit 3.0 Intel core 2 quad Q9650, 64 kb primary cache, NOT hyperthreaded ((DO I NEED HYPERTHREADING?))

      * Asus P5K3 Delux, 333 megahertz

      * 8 gigs ram

      * Sys/programs drive: 10,000rpm drive

      * Video/audio/project/rendered files drive: 2, 1tb 7200 rpm drives raid 0

      * GTS 450 videocard (cuda enabled)

      The system handles 1 layer mp4 & avchd OK. Could be better. I use mainly CS5 Premeire & Encore. Very little photoshop & AE. I edit weddings mainly & are constantly getting different formats & resolutions thrown at me. I need to be able to handle most formats with ease. Lots of Bluray Outputs as well.

      **I need to be able to monitor video on a seperate monitor via component and hdmi. Will I need an additional card to do this? What is an inexpensive one?

      **MB: I would like 2 FW ports, 6 or more SATA ports, 12 or 24 gigs ram..CAN PREMEIRE UTILIZE 24 GIGS?

      ** Can I put all video/project/render files on a 2 drive 7200 rpm Raid 0 ? Or do I need another drive.

      **How much faster will the new system be compared to the one above.

      I am looking to build an NLE for $2000 not including monitors or software.

      I saw this post on the forum from

      Chuck A. McIntyre

      , how might this do for me?? I could spend a little more to get more:-) THANKS TO ALL!

          If you want to see how much faster your potential new system would be aside of your current system look at our Premiere Pro BenchMark (PPBM5) data.

          Premiere runs fastest on anything more than 12 GB, so a logical configuration is 24 GB.  There is a major speed up going beyond 12 GB.

          A two drive RAID 0 system is fine AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A GOOD AND FREQUENT BACK UP system.  Many on this forum advocate a third disk for various other purposes but my use would be backup and archiving.

            Thanks Bill.

            I will be adding 24 gigs of mem instead of 12. 6 x 4gig cards.

            Can anyone make some comments/changes to the above system that wont increase the $$$ to more than $500 or so?

            Thanks

              Lots of large/slow/quiet case fans and, even if you are not going to overclock the CPU, a better than stock cooler

                Others have posted that the Nvidia 500 series cards run quieter and cooler.

                You dont have to stick with the 470 since many others have been using the text hack to unlock the MPE just fine.

                Depending on how many hard drives that 850 power might be low.

                  try antec power supply

                  1000WT quattro this system has lots of power option that can be modified in the future

                  also one more thing i heard gtx 500s are having some overheating issues .as far as i know 470 is recommended  by adobe cheap as well but still i struggle to find a way to send the timeline preview to 2nd display

                  o u need a full tower to make some room for vent!

                  good luck

                  i am still testing my system

                  i am checking the AVCHD ..as we know its a hard compression thing ...and so choppy ..but here with MP Engine   and 24GB ram its more likely  fluid in scrubbing . but note that system reserve 3gb  ram and premiere uses 21gb

                    Absolutely no problem here with my 580 on overheating, less problem than my 480.

                    Full screen preview to second monitor is a piece of cake when you go to Playback Settings and select that monitor.

                    AVCHD playback here is smooth as silk and I have never bother to reserve memory.
