2 - Bad results from emailing a PDF is a problem with how email software "sees" a PDF, and how the document is then prepared to be sent over the Internet
Short version... email software encodes all attachements for transmission... a PDF is incorrectly "seen" as a text file, and the wrong encoding method is used... the file is then garbled upon receipt
Solution... ZIP all PDF files before sending via email

Alternately, you could post to a web space somewhere and email a link to the PDF.

Lucien Schilling Mar 17, 2011 3:45 AM (in response to John T Smith)Email software does not alter the content of attachements even while coding the attachement to something "transportable". The e-mail progrom on the other side decodes the coded file and presents it correctly. I never had problems with that, even on different machines and OS. Zipping wouldn't help in this case. I suppose the files are not PDF files. PDF files bear a signature at the beginning of the data stream, you can open the PDF file in a text editor to check that signatue (Word, notepad or any other editor). The signature reads like %PDF-1.X. X is the PDF subversion number.

Hmmm.
Not sure why it's been an ongoing problem for many years and Zipping the file works 90% of the time then.
