    Exporting Still images to Photoshop

    babybosajr

      Hi guys,

I just finished watching the Gareth Edwards spot on adobe TV (http://tv.adobe.com/watch/customer-stories-video-film-and-audio/monsters/) and I was wondering exactly how he was able to export a still from after effects (that contained a sign in it), work on it in photoshop, and then go back to after effects and have it update?  Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this? It seems like magic!

      Thanks

The clip glossed over the specifics - it's not QUITE as easy as the vid makes it seem.

          But still fairly straightforward:

Export a still frame from AE - use Composition/Save Frame as/File

Edit it in Photoshop as required

Import as a new file to After Effects

To make subsequent changes to the Photoshop file from AE, use Edit Original (Cmnd/Ctrl E) to re-open the image in PS.  Once you save it, AE will automatically update to the new version.

They didn't mention in the video that motion tracking, lighting and shading etc, were all big parts of making such a shot successful.
