    Rewinding a movie

    Proddy2k
I have some code to rewind my movie but for some reason the rewind is very slow. I have tried to increase the speed to -6 but still it is running slow. The forwards is fine. Any ideas?

      on mouseDown me
      (sprite 8).movieRate = -3
      (sprite 8).volume = 0
      end

          Hey Proddy,
I guess the issue is that probably all video codecs are optimised for
          playing forward:
keyframes and changes from frame to frame.
Going back in the file or stream is simply much harder to do...

Only with uncompressed video I think this is not an issue, but then you get
in trouble with datarate and storage.

          Richard.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Does that mean it is still rewinding but really slowly and badly? So should I keep the code the same or change it?

              Hi again,

I do not understand why you want to play it backwards.
That is only fun for 10 seconds and I see no real purpose.
              Am I missing something?

              Richard.

At least you accurately surmissed what the OP wanted. Upon my first reading
about 'Rewinding' I had flashbacks of returning a VHS to the local video
                store.

Ah well... Betamax was better anyway ... :-P

I only read this post, but now I see there is more about this video "play
                  pause rewind forward" thing.
Just setting the movietime to 0 would make the video jump to the start,
                  right.
Or is that out of date by now?

                  Richard.

Did they never tell you to rewind your DVD's before returning them?
                    :)

Basically it is a rewind button to search to a particular point of the video element. So the user can rewind back to a certain point if they missed it.
