1. Re: Ready to export a 20min short, whats an effective efficient way to combine all scenes?
Bill Hunt Mar 22, 2011 12:14 PM (in response to bboyatomik)Not sure what version of PrPro/Pr you are working with, but two easy choices would be to:
- Import the existing Projects into a new one
- Export from each Project as an intermediate file, using something like the Lagarith Lossless CODEC, then Import each into a New Project
What I would have done would have been to create each "scene" as a New Sequence in a single Project. I have worked with up to 9 hours of total footage, in 19 separate Sequences in one Project, and even from FW-800 externals, the load time is under 1 min.
Good luck,
Hunt

2. Re: Ready to export a 20min short, whats an effective efficient way to combine all scenes?
JSS1138 Mar 22, 2011 12:29 PM (in response to bboyatomik)Here's the problem with splitting up a movie into separate PP project files. If you want to continue to work with all the media and all the cuts and transitions and effects and such, you'll need to import those separate projects into one for final assembly. When doing that, PP will load a copy of every clip from every project. So if a clip is used in 3 of those scenes/projects, it'll load that clip 3 times. This actually slows down the start up times.
You may have been better off keeping all scenes in the same project.

bboyatomik Apr 17, 2011 1:30 PM (in response to JSS1138)Hey thanks guys, (1 month later, lol)
Is it possible to import all the project files or the SELECTED SCENE files without losing the audio? Because that's what mine did. I had to go back and replace and locate every single audio file on the timeline.

4. Re: Ready to export a 20min short, whats an effective efficient way to combine all scenes?
Bill Hunt Apr 17, 2011 2:46 PM (in response to bboyatomik)If you have several PrPro Projects, and want to combine them, then just create a New Project, that matches the others, and Import each Project into that. The Audio should come in just fine. If not, then it's likely that the links to the Audio are broken. Could be that they have been Renamed, Moved or Deleted.
Now, Copy/Paste can often loose Audio. Is that involved in your workflow anywhere?
Good luck,
Hunt

5. Re: Ready to export a 20min short, whats an effective efficient way to combine all scenes?
bboyatomik Apr 17, 2011 4:15 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)There may have been because I started importing from the Scene 1 project file, where maybe I should of started completely from scratch. Not only did I have to replace audio files but I did get a lot of error messages after an interval of 3 saves upon working. On the upside, I realize my top of the line Dell from 2005 is capable of successfully rendering the 20min rough cut, which took 10 hours on Encore.
Now that I know how to do it, I guess the import will be worth starting over to avoid errors in the next rough cut workflow.

Yes, that is the unfortunate truth with computers. My "killer" workstation is about the same genre, as your Dell, give a few months. It is starting to show that I need a new box! Glad that I am not editing AVCHD/H.264, or I'd have needed to do this earlier.
Good luck,

7. Re: Ready to export a 20min short, whats an effective efficient way to combine all scenes?
bboyatomik Apr 24, 2011 2:05 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hey Bill, so I restarted an import of all project files this time, now all the video and AUDIO is all there, one sequence.
Although, upon deleting the unesseccary files(prior lack of organized bins) to free up MB on the project file, oddly the Megabytes started to get higher. Any theories how this happened? The project file normally went from 30MB to 25MB, now its up to an odd 37MB.
btw I did peform a Render Entire Video, but Adobe crashed before it reached 95%.
ALSO I only copied and paste ONE time, just one audio track.
What do you think? Start a new thread?

Bill Hunt Apr 24, 2011 11:50 AM (in response to bboyatomik)I would definitely do a new thread.
Add the details of what you are workng with now, the Project/Sequence Preset, and exactly what you are doing.
Also, list the full specs. of your computer, and especially the I/O (full details of your HDD's).
Good luck,
Hunt
