Hi, thanks. You don't have McAfee & AVG do you? Have you had a Virus/Malware? If so which program removed it? If you don't have both of those Anti-Virus programs, which one do you have? (in case what you stated was a typo)

On the Service Pack, if you go up to Help and click on About Internet Explorer you should see "update version".

It's not real important for Flash Player, but for your Windows system as it's an Update by Microsoft.

In your IE7 addons do you have the Shockwave Flash Object, Installed and Enabled?

Also go to this test site and let me know if you can see the Flash logo(Red F) animation(spinning).

Also what version of Flash Player is Displayed as Installed?

Do you have the "kill-bit" set for Flash Player?

If yes, don't try to fix anything manually; someone will give you an easier way to remoe the "kill-bit".

Hi, thanks for the add'l info. Just one question: Did AVG find any malware/Virus, since you said AVG removed all threats?

Just want to be clear on what you meant, i.e., there was malware and they removed it and the last scan you ran was clean?

Also the link that Pat posted, go ahead and check that out. Post#1, just look for that Key and Setting and post back what you found.

Thanks. Go to this site and it will tell you what Flash Player version is Installed:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

In Post# 5  Did you go to that site and check in the Windows Registry, by following the steps in the first post?

This is what I want you to do so you can check:

open the registry editor: Start | Run | type regedit.exe
navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
if that key does not exist, then the "kill-bit" for Flash Player is not set

OK-- when I visit the website http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

I don't get anything telling me what version of flash is installed. Just

above the dialog box with grey headers of: Platform, Brower and Player

version, (slightly to the right) I have a red X that looks like something is

missing from the display, didn't load on the page. I've cut and past it

below...red x is in the top left hand side:

I found the registry key. It is exactly the same

THANKS again and again for your patience.

Ok, thanks for checking the test site.

Now on the Registry Key check.

  • if it contains a DWORD entry with the name Compatibility Flags that has any value other than 0x00000000, then the "kill-bit" for Flash Player may be set
  • To help you, take a look at this thread and find Post #17, as there is a screenshot showing the following:

    Thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/816576?tstart=0

    Compatibility Flags          REG_DWORD         0x00000000 (0)

Do you have this at your Registry Key? Is it exactly like that?

Ok on the test site, as the addon for Flash Player is missing and that's why it isn't working. I'm trying to determine what is causing it. One of the reasons is the KIll-bit.

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

Also, it located on the page adjacent to the registry list.

Hi thanks for checking again. There are many Keys in the Registry. Did you locate this Key:

    D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}

Take a good look at that screenshot to make sure you are in the correct place. Don't change anything, just find that Key.

Sorry that I keep pressing for that, but it's important. If that Key is there with anything other than what that screenshot shows, as a 400 at the end, then the Kill-bit is set.

We have to confirm it is or it isn't. Because if it is, then Flash Player will never work, no matter what we do.

    Thanks,

Hi, thanks. I've had some delays myself. Now, I know I'm hard to please, but you found that Key and it looks just like this?

    Compatibility Flags          REG_DWORD         0x00000000 (0)

    Thanks,

We'll probably do an Uninstall/Install and see if you can clear this up. I'll give you the instructions, since I want the Anti-Virus Disabled correctly.

Hi, thanks. On that Registry Key:

I DO have D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8444553540000 in the Registry Editor under

Active X Compatibility. As long as the Compatibility Flag doesn't list x00000400, then you are ok on that issue.

Now I want you to go to Control Panel/Add & Remove. Find the DLM (download manager) and click on Remove. Remove it and when it is Removed, then Reboot(restart) your computer.

Then go back to your Manage addons in IE and look under "Show" in all addons/runwithout Permission and find that get_atlcom Class. It should not be there now, since it is part of the DLM. If it is still there, then Disable it.

Let me know on that and then I'll give you the instructions for an Uninstall/Install. Also, we'll be disabling AVG & I'll give you info on how to do that. You'll be offline when Installing so that is no problem.

    Thanks,

Hi - I've removed the DLM ( it was Adobe DLM... ok?) and rebooted.

I do not see get_atlcom class in the manage add on, run with out permission.

where would it be? I have 6 sections / headers in run w/o permission:

Apple, Microsoft, Google, Sun, Adobe, & not verified (google).

The only entry under Adobe is Adobe PDF reader..

I think you meant you went to the IE manage addons, not the Registry. I understand all of what I'm having you check is not easy when you are not familiar with it all:-) Only what is necessary is all I'm asking you to do. Now, the following Steps will be for Uninstalling and Installing Flash Player. It will look more difficult than it really is:-) We are going to Disable the AVG, but you won't do that until you see that listed in the Steps. Right now, I just want to post that info so you can take a look at what needs to be done when you need to. Let me know if you have any problem seeing how to do this when it is needed.

    How to Disable AVG:

    Resident Shield:
Open AVG User Interface. (Right Click to Open) This is the Icon in your System tray(area near the clock)
    Double-click on the Resident Shield.
Un-tick the option Resident Shield active.
    SAVE THE CHANGES

    LinkScanner:
Open AVG User Interface.(Right Click to Open)
    Double-click on the LinkScanner.
Un-tick the option Enable AVG Search-Shield and Enable Active Surf-Shield.
    SAVE THE CHANGES

Hi, ok. You didn't need to do that until you are offline tho. So if you want to re-enable the Resident Shield only now so you'll have protection. You'll be going on line to get the links, etc. The LinkScanner, just leave Disabled.

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)

    Disable AVG per instructions

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
Check to make sure AVG is still Disabled before running the Installer
Run the Installer for IE,  and when finished, Reboot.

    Re-enable AVG

Then go to this test site and test each browser:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

Hi, Yes, that test site tells me whether the Shockwave Flash Object is Installed in your addons of IE. Go to your addons and see if it's Installed but just Disabled. If it's there, make sure it's Enabled.

No, no need to Uninstall/Install again. If the Shockwave Flash Object is not Installed and Enabled, then something prevented it from Installing.

Did you receive any error messages when Uninstalling or Installing?

Either you had a Virus/Malware on your Computer and AVG removed it, or  we're back to the Kill-bit. Can you look at the log or report that AVG makes when they removed anything? That would be helpful.

Right now tho, go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Right click on the Flash folder and Open it. Then let me know all Flash files that are listed there. Just type them in your message. Don't double click on any!

Let me know on the above.

    Thanks,
