enable the cacheAsBitmap property of your mask and masked objects.
Thanks for the reply, but how exactly do I do that??
Can not seem to find it anywhere?

there are, at least, two ways. the easiest to describe is to convert both mask and masked objects to movieclips (eg, mask_mc and masked_mc) and use:
To fade up effect
Go to this link to see a tutorial on making a soft edge mask http://disq.us/sddtz
This method works great for me and explains exactly how to apply the coding (youve already received) to your art to make it work
Brill, Thanks for the link thats very simular to the effect I want to create.
Will give it a go when I get a minute!
Got to exstablish how to change the action script as Im using 2 and not 3, but someone seems to have suggested the script in the comments panel so Ill give that a go.
When you go to try this effect - open your current AS 2.0 doc - go to
publish settings - go to the flash settings and change the scripting
to 3.0 then publish your document - go to your action script box and
it should be 3.0
Hi, Thanks for the help. Ive created a version in actionscript 3 perfectly, however can not get it to work in Actionscript 2. Get the feeling whatever I do it wouldnt work in actionscript 2.
It was suggested in the comments bar if you change this:
//enable bitmap caching for both movieclips
//tell the colored car to use the gradient clip, mask_mc, as its mask!
color_mc.mask = mask_mc;
It may work, However no such luck on this occassion.
I would normally just create the piece in actionscript 3, however it has an negative effect on the rest of my work so that is not possible.
Yes try your last coding in AS 2.0
This publishes correctly for me - the AS 3.0 coding doesn't publish
the animation for me.
That script works perfectly when the image is still, however when I move the mask to create the animation it doesn't move, for reasons unknown to me.
May have to admit defeat on this one, unless you have any ideas?
I'm going to attach my trial soft edge mask that worked for me. Not
sure what your problem is. This doc is CS4 with AS 3.0 scripting. I
also included my step by step interpretation that I use for myself and
colleagues ( I do forget the steps over time!)
If you can't figure out your problem from my Flash doc , I would be
willing to look at your flash doc to see if I could help
Hi, Thanks that would be great.
Im using CS3 and actionscript 2, due to the rest of my website being made in it.
Yeah if you can have a look at my test file that would be great!
Ive just got it as a basic image which faids across to show the full image. The effect works when Its not motion tweened, Its only when its tweened that it no longer works!
Zip it along with your swf/html files and I'll look at it - can't
promise anything - but I'll take a look
Thanks...One small question how do I send it to you?lol. Can not find anywhere on here where I can attach it.
Not sure on that -did you get my attachment?
Are you getting these responses on your email - I sent zipped files
from my email
nope, didn't get no attachment!
Yep am getting reply's sent to my email, but there are no files on them.
You might make an inquiry to the flash forum about how to attach items
(I have seen others exchange files on the forums) or a way to exchange
our emails without making it public on the forum.
