    .THM files

      Hi - Please forgive a base-one question.

I'm using a Canon 5D Mk II to shoot video and Premiere CS5 on an iMac OS 10.6.7 to edit.

When dragging files from the CF card to my external hard disk I have both .MOV files and .THM files. Do I need to drag both files across and, if so, what is the function of the .THM files?

      Thanks, Derek (UK)

The .THuMbnail files contain a thumbnail image of the recorded movie, and EXIF metadata about the clip and camera, as well. At present, Premiere doesn't access any of this metadata, or use the thumbnail image. There are some third-party tools and workflows you can use to inject time-of-day timecode into the MOVs using the THM files, but that's really only "important" if you actually need the timecode. You can probably safely delete them, or just ignore them--they don't take up much space.
