Jeff Bellune Mar 29, 2011 3:43 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)Please don't double-post. You only waited 3 hours before posting again in an inappropriate forum. That's pretty impatient. If you need to draw attention to your topic later on, then simply bump this topic.

2. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Felix CL Mar 31, 2011 1:30 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)yes, it is possible.
in encore, you can choose your DVD-transcode-settings as well as your blu-ray-transcode settings,
in the "create"-tab you can then output to a dvd and to a blu-ray.
-not sure, if it's name really is create, but, you know, the output tab, from where you burn your dvd or create your DVD-folder, i am using the german version, so "create" is a wild guess...

3. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Joe Riggs Apr 1, 2011 8:28 PM (in response to Felix CL)In the project menu, there's transcode status for DVD and blu ray. I've transcoded to DVD. However, I don't see an option for transcoding Blu-ray in the project menu. When I right click Transcode now is grayed out. I do see one in the Build menu which I assume for us Yanks is the "create" tab.
So would the proper workflow be create and burn SD DVD, then go to build menu change to Blu Ray and it will transcode and burn that version?

4. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Felix CL Apr 2, 2011 4:22 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)you might have to restore the original untranscoded files first.
By the way: what is your source material? Dynamic Link from Premiere/AE, an m4v?
When Encore transcodes "now" for DVD, it replaces the originals with the transcoded files.
When you rightclick/CtrlClick the file in the project menu, underneath the greyed "transcode now" you will find "restore original".
If you do this, you should then be able to transcode for Blu-Ray.
I usually work the other way around, i make the Blu-Ray first and then the DVD. Since i create all the Menus in 1920x1080 and scaling down is better than scaling up ;-)
-and thank you for the english-course alongside. So if you have your transcode settings (project menu - files- right-/ctrl click - transcode settings) for both, Blu-Ray and DVD set up, and don't use the "transcode now" - feature at all and go to the build menu right away, you should be able to build both, the Blu-Ray and the DVD.

Joe Riggs Apr 2, 2011 9:59 PM (in response to Felix CL)It's actually a self contained quicktime from FCP.

6. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Igor Valentovitch Apr 7, 2011 10:25 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)I also followed the path 'transcode for HD first' and 'transcode for SD second' from the same HD project. This works well for the footage but results in streched and inacurate menus (donwsized to SD by Encore from HD). I read somewhere that it is a good idea to create separate SD versions of your menus for the SD project.

7. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
anuraggrwl Apr 8, 2011 4:41 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)Hi,
Let me explain how transcoding works for DVD and Blueray.
Encore transcodes the files separately for DVD and Blueray and once the transcode is done and status shows transcoded the options for transcoding are greyed out, this means you have already transcoded the file and you cannot transcode again without reverting to original.
For example you have blueray selected in project settings and you click transcode now from project panel the files will be transcoded for blueray, but after transcoding if for any reason you decide to change the transcode settings and transcode the asset again with different settings you have to revert to original.
But in this case when you want to transcode the assets for DVD you don’t need to revert to original and loose the transcoding done for blueray. You can change the project settings from blueray to DVD after that you will be able to transcode for DVD without losing the transcoded files for blueray.

8. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Igor Valentovitch Apr 8, 2011 9:37 AM (in response to anuraggrwl)Thank you for your time to respond to this thread.
Can you please clarify one last point: are Encore's and PrP's (CS5) transcoding machines different or they basically use the same transcoding module within CS5 to transcode the footge? Do you recommend to transcode the footage first in PrP and do the authoring (without trasncoding) in Encore, or it does not really mater whether one uses Encore or PrP to transcode the footage?
Thank you in advance :

9. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
Felix CL Apr 9, 2011 3:23 AM (in response to Joe Riggs)Joe:
so for this simple one-button-menu and self contained quicktime, did you try my suggestion and did it work for you?
anuraggrwl:
as i experienced, you don't "loose" a finished transcode, when you restore the original, you can still hit search transcoded file and go to the project folder/sources/transcodes and choose a former transcode, right?
Igor:
i also use separate psds for bluray and DVD-Menus.
And as far as transcoding goes in comparison to PR,
if you check:
EDIT -> Preferences -> General -> Transcode Assests using Adobe Media Encoder in Encore, it uses AME, just like Premiere does.
but i'd love someone to clarify, what parts of encore are sonic and what parts are adobe?
how does automatic encoding find the right setting for the remaining disc capacity vs. quality loss?If i don't use AME in Encore to transcode my assets, who transcodes my assets? ;-)
but all of this might fit better in a new thread for Joe's initial concern not to be hijacked...

10. Re: Workflow for creating one project that can be burned to both Blu-ray and standard DVD?
anuraggrwl Apr 11, 2011 1:27 AM (in response to Igor Valentovitch)function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
are Encore's and PrP's (CS5) transcoding machines different or they basically use the same transcoding module within CS5 to transcode the footge?
Encore has its own transcoding engine but as already mentioned by felix you can turn on the use Adobe Media Encoder option under preferences to change and use Adobe Media Encoder for encoding.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Do you recommend to transcode the footage first in PrP and do the authoring (without trasncoding) in Encore, or it does not really mater whether one uses Encore or PrP to transcode the footage?
I prefer transcoding the footage from Encore because it lets you change the transcode settings taking care of possible combinations of dimensions and frame rate. It also shows the size under disc info and you have the option to change settings and preset according to available space. If you choose AME to transcode then you have to transcode the assets before building DVD or blueray using transcode Now option under project pannel.
