We want to display the WebHelp output inside a portal. The
same WebHelp output is also distributed on a CD. We are working
with only version of the WebHelp output which has the Contents,
Index and Search buttons. These three buttons make sense when
someone views the WebHelp output from the CD. However, the portal
has its own Search that can be used to search the WebHelp output;
thus we would like to hide the Search button in the WebHelp output.
Since I don't want to generate a new output with Search
hidden; I want to maintain only one version, is there some
conditional logic that I can add to the WebHelp output that
prevents the Search from getting displayed in the WebHelp output if
this output is inside a portal?

You can add another webhelp layout which is a copy of the
existing one, just right click it and select duplicate. In the copy
you deselect the search button.
However, once the user is in the help, have you considered
the usability when they have to go back to the portal to search.
Also consider is the portal search just for the help and whether
that might be a user requirement.
