zodob2 Mar 31, 2011 1:25 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)I mean long narrow band. Like try to fit three 640x480 videos (1.avi, 2.avi, 3.avi) in a 640x480 video (big.avi) .

Harm Millaard Mar 31, 2011 1:53 AM (in response to zodob2)Use Motion/scale or crop to resize. See http://vimeo.com/1954849 for an example.

zodob2 Apr 23, 2011 7:33 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Yes I want to do something like that. I'm a complete newbie to Premiere, where can I find Motion/scale and crop? Is there any step by step guide on how to do this?

5. Re: video with 3 stripes (one video on each stripe)
Bill Hunt Apr 23, 2011 8:21 AM (in response to zodob2)What you are wishing to do is called PiP (Picture in Picture). One sees this most often with superimposed images of events, or reporters in news casts. Usually, the PiP's there are pretty much full Frame, but just made much smaller, and positioned on one side of the main Frame.
This is an example of several PiP's, and one is a "stripe," the background behind the "This is Heathrow" Title. The other is of the woman on a phone, which is more traditionally sized, though it was Cropped to be closer to square, than the normal rectangle.
This particular example also shows a "border" around one of the PiP's, the woman, but you can ignore that.
Harm has given you the right tips on how to do the PiP - the fixed Effects>Motion>Scale & Motion>Position. In your case, you will also probably want to apply the Effect>Crop to limit the PiP's to horizontal bands.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - That particular image was from PrElements, so the GUI looks a bit different than PrPro, but the layout of the Clips on the Timeline will be the same for you.

Harm Millaard Apr 23, 2011 8:50 AM (in response to zodob2)Crop is an effect. Motion/scale can be found in the effects control panel, after you have selected the clip in the timeline. I suggest you start reading the help file, watch Lynda tutorials and do a lot of studying. There is nothing difficult about it, it is not rocket science, just getting used to the interface. Often it pays to just try it and see where you end up. The experience will help you in the future.

zodob2 Apr 23, 2011 10:36 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thank you both.
Is there a way to autoposition the clips one after the other, so I don't have to calculate based on their size?

Bill Hunt Apr 23, 2011 11:59 AM (in response to zodob2)While there is not automatic way to do that, I simplify the process for matching PiP's with alignment grids, that I create in Photoshop. This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
Here is an example of an alignment grid being used for both Scale and Position:
In your case, you would create an alignment grid for the "strips," and then Scale and Position to those. Just turn OFF the Visibility of the Alignment Grid, before you output the file, or just Delete it completely.
My workflow, if I needed matching strips, would be to do one, and apply Scale and Crop to it. Then Select it, Rt-click on it and choose Copy. Now, Select all other Clips, that will be strips, Rt-click them, and choose Paste Attributes. Note: you will have ONLY done the Scale and Crop, so will then need to go into the Clips and adjust their Position, as is needed. With say three strips, I would have ALL of my strip # 1 Clips on one Video Track, ALL of my strip # 2 Clips on another , etc. That will make it easier to get semi-global Positioning.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
Hunt
