    Slide Notes Disappearing Captivate 5

    KGTS

I am working with Captivate 5; Windows XP.

I've been adding slide notes to my project and saving them (multiple slides).

I did not import any PPT presentations and I did not delete any slides (as I saw in someone's post).

I simply did not do anything unusual... I added Slide Notes and saved the file from time to time.

For no apparent reason, the slide notes disappeared (from all slides).

Has anyone ran into the same problem? If so, is there a way to correct it?

As the matter of fact, all of my slide notes in all projects have disappeared (as I just found out by opening other projects). I had a copy of some files on a separate drive, and I have saved slide notes in them.  If I open any of those copies, the slide notes are not there either.

However, I've published a few Handouts to MS Word yesterday and this morning, showing the slide notes... So, I know that the notes were in the Captivate files.

Any help on how to return the Slide Notes or where Adobe Captivate 5 saves and stores the Slide Notes would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you.

          Hi,

I could not reproduce this issue from my end.

Can you delete the preferences once and check whether is it still happening?

          [i.e. Delete "Captivate 5" folder in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe]

Also, is it possible to share your project? so that we can investigate further on this issue.

You can e-mail me to my ID vikranth@adobe.com

          Thanks,

          Vikranth.

A developer on my team has experienced the same thing. We are running Captivate 5 on Windows 7 Enterprise, however.

We are experiencing something similar  - except entire folders and files are disappearing. We are working on Windows 7 64bit workstations and using Captivate 5 saving files to our C: drive (now saving to multiple locations so we do not lose our work). A colleague is able to reproduce the issue - Clicking END to stop recording deletes all files in the Publish location.

Recently, we upgraded from Captivate 3 to Captivate 5 when we moved to Windows 7. We have had problem after problem but were told Captivate 3 would not work after we upgraded OS (since then we've been able to get Captivate 3 working on our Windows 7 with 64bit only). Captivate 5 runs very slow even on an 8G RAM 64bit machine........

                all,

I actually found the answer to my own question, in a way.

One of my projects apparently was corrupt an it was causing the issue with the disappearing notes. However, after rebooting my computer, clearing the Adobe Captivate Cached Projects, I opened a different project in Adobe Captivate 5, and all the notes were in place. After a while, I figured that as long as I don't open the corrupt file, my notes remain in place. I had to recreate the corrupt file though and save it with a different name.

I also noticed that the files are more likely to get corrupted if they are long (over 70-80 slides long) or if they have a lot of animations (really a lot).

As for the people using Captivate 3.... You may be used to Captivate 3 and it may be hard to switch software, but Captivate 5 is a lot more powerful and has a lot less issues than Captivate 3 ever did. I would reconsider, if I were you...

Sometimes, simply republishing a project helps...

If the "stop" button is a problem, I'd copy all the slides (in the source file) to a fresh new project, except for the one with the stop button; and then I would try to recreate the button that causes the issue, save and republish the new project.
