click edit/preferences/actionscript and make sure your foreground and background are different colors.
Never heard of that before, but it seems it could only be your coloring
prefs - File > Preferences > ActionScript - make sure Code Coloring is
checked and that the Foreground and Background colors are different.

I just tried that and it still isn't working. I even tried turning the foreground color green and the background color grey. The background color turns grey but the foreground doesn't show up at all. 0_o??? By the way if it helps at all I'm using Flash MX 2004
are you using a font that's on your computer or one listed in paranthesis in your font combobox?
I'm not sure what you mean by font combo box? Do you mean the preference window> action script> under text? I just changed the text from 'monoco' to 'times' to see what would happen and that still doesn't seem to effect the visibility. I've also shut down the program and reopened to see what would happen and nothing works so far.
Oh wait... I can see the text!!! Apparently I did something right. Probably changing the font. I think I may have turned off a couple of fonts in font book and probably it was the one the actionscript needed... oops... Anyways thanks everyone for your help... I didn't even know action script had preferences :P
