1. Re: Illustrator Layers
[scott] Apr 4, 2011 6:41 PM (in response to rsukhram@tgioa.com)There is no setting.
It's been mentioned a few times. For some reason Ai feels the need to always expand all layers when a file is opened. It's annoying.
The best way to deal with it is to place all your layers into anotehr layer as sublayers. Then when you open a file, it only takes 1 click to collapse all layers.
I wish they'd fix this.

Jacob Bugge Apr 5, 2011 12:16 AM (in response to rsukhram@tgioa.com)You may say that they should refix it: there was no such issue in the old days, before they unfixed it.

rsukhram@tgioa.com Apr 5, 2011 5:30 AM (in response to [scott])Guys thanks for the replies. Yeah I do create a main layer with multiple sub layers but I agree it can be a bit annoying to have to close every sub/sub/sub layer...lolz.
Hopefully an update or the new version will correct this. Also this only seems to be an issue with illustrator. Photoshop keeps the layers in the same state when the file was saved...

4. Re: Illustrator Layers
[scott] Apr 5, 2011 6:00 AM (in response to rsukhram@tgioa.com)If you option/alt click to collapse the main layer, all the sublayers should collapse as well. So then you can re-open the main layer and see collpased sub-layers.

5. Re: Illustrator Layers
rsukhram@tgioa.com Apr 5, 2011 7:47 AM (in response to rsukhram@tgioa.com)since we are on the topic of layers perhaps you can help with this also.
I am working between 2 files.
File 1 has a main layer with sub layers.
File 2 has a blank layer.
When I select all my layers from the file 1 and copy to the selected blank layer of file 2 the layer structure from file 1 does not carry over. It takes all the parts and put all into one layer as opposed to sub layers. Is there a proper way to move/copy layers from file to file?

Cristian Mihai Oct 8, 2011 3:43 PM (in response to rsukhram@tgioa.com)Hey guys, I know how annoying this can be, and I have a solution. It's not perfect, but it works:
I've made an extension that will allow you to collapse all the layers and sub-layers and sub-sub-sub....... get the point.
