How do I open pages in Bookmarks pane?

Normally, I open a PDF e-book and select the page I want to view from the bookmarks pane, and I'm good to go.  However, I can't seem to open ANY pages in the PDF e-book I want to read unless I scroll down to the page I want.  So, if I want to read page 300 I have to start from the cover of the e-book and scroll all the way down to page 300.  How can I get it so I can just view page 300 without having to scroll all the way down to it?  I can select any page in the e-book, but it doesn't show up in the view pane, though.  This is getting frustrating!!  HELP!!
