1. Re: BUtton VIdeo Thumbnail Animation
Stan Jones Apr 5, 2011 6:48 PM (in response to emin3m33)You do this by building a complete motion background (in AE or Premiere) that includes the thumbnail clip you want (resized in the motion background).
I just want the video thumbnail to play a 5 sec other clip ... instead of the the begining of the sequience encore chapter mark it is linked tooo.
You can have the thumbnail play any part of the movie you are linking it to (including a different chapter section); it does not have to be the beginning. (I realize that is not what your main question is.)
a lot cheaper software out there can do more complex things.
Just curious; what software provides a motion button that is not the video the button links to?
I wonder if you can do what you are wanting by editing the info directly (e.g. pgcedit or similar); or will Larry's new option do it?

2. Re: BUtton VIdeo Thumbnail Animation
emin3m33 Apr 5, 2011 7:02 PM (in response to Stan Jones)wait but this is so frustrating though. For example, many people would want their ceremony button to start a few seconds before the ceremony starting (titles, blank screen, then ceremony), while the video thumbnail in the menu plays some clip for example, bride walking down the isle. Is that too much to ask without having to always require a complex premiere or after effects composition. After all, encore is a seperate DVD authoring program and its 2011, I thought this feature would be built into encore. I am complaining because the only benefit TO ME of buying and using encore is that it sets menu as first play, add some video and audio to the background with a click and shows me a preview of my dvd. Well whoo whoo, Nero and Roxio do all these features. The biggest feature of Encore I can find is motion background and button links? I just dont want to go into AE and make a composition just to add a 5 sec video clip to my button thats not the same video the button is linked to.

The bride walking down the aisle is part of the ceremony video being linked to, right? Well, not if your clips brought into Encore are all separate timelines. But if it is, there is no problem; Encore does that fine. Select chapter 1 of the ceremony timeline, set the poster frame to the "walk down aisle" - Encore creates the thumbnail video there.
I do not think that many people would want the thumbnail to be something that is not in the video they are going to watch.
But I agree that it would be nice to add other content into the thumbnail. You might want to submit a feature request. It should not be too hard to select an asset for the thumbnail. But AE or Premiere for such a background is pretty quick.
Remember that much of Encore is not Adobe (it was licensed from Sonic), and Encore is not available as a separate purchase; it is an extension of Premiere.

emin3m33 Apr 5, 2011 9:47 PM (in response to Stan Jones)look..its quite simple..bear with me. Usually every ceremony doesnt start with the bride walking down the isle! am i right? So for example, my ceremony starts with a black screen, fades in with a title of the church exterior, AND THEN the brides maids come in. HOWEVER, on the dvd menu, If I do a video thumbnail button, it will show a black screen (because I want my ceremony button chapter to start the scene with a blank screen and title, etc) and perhaps a few more sec of video that is actually NOT at the ceremony part yet (titlles, etc). So when ppl look at the menu, they're like wtf? Ceremony thumbnail shows only blank screen and some jibberish. My point: don't you and the adobe community think it is much better for a viewer to look at a chapter button video thumbnail and see a bride walking down the isle, gee that must mean its the ceremony. I can't just set my encore chapter mark to bride walking down the isle just for the thumbnail because I want the customers to see a few seconds before the bride walks down, such as maybe a title, etc. I mean this stuff is pretty simple. We see it on every dvd out there.

That is simple, and no problem in Encore, as I described. Just move the poster frame for the chapter that button is linked to (normally chapter 1 of that video) to the point that you want to appear in the thumbnail. But you are asking for the thumbnail video to come from a different timeline.
