How do I add a PDF into a Topic in RobHelp 9?

I have been asked to add PDFs into a user guide which is in RoboHelp 9.  I am unable to figure out how to insert the PDF into my topic.  How can this be accomplished or is this impossible to do?

Hi and welcome to the RH community.

Are you saying you want a link to a PDF? If so, the way I handle this is to add a hyperlink to the PDF which automatically imports the PDF and places it as a Baggage File in the Project Manager pod. When you add the hyperlink, just click the down arrow next to the "Link to" field and select File.

No, the user wants the actual PDF imbedded into the topic. Is this do-able?

Hi Michele

The shortcut control will work in much the same manner as the link will.

You might try inserting an inliine frame and specifying the PDF as the source if you wish to present the content directly on the page.

Thank you for your information.

As you certainly know I am a pretty new user. I was in your class in Atlanta.

So I need kind of step by step instructions, if you do not mind. I tried following the instructions from the other answer I received and was unable to get very far.

Any other help you can provide will be appreciated.

LOL, I didn't pick up on that one!

Basically what you do is to open the topic where you wish to present the PDF. Then put your cursor where you want the PDF to be placed. From there, click Insert > HTML > IFrame.

You will be prompted for a Name. Use any name you like. It simply identifies the frame. Below the Name is a field for Document. Here, you will insert the file name of the PDF. You may use the little folder icon to browse to and choose the PDF.

Once you complete the dialog and dismiss it, you should see the basic IFRAME in the topic. The last thing you would need to do is to drag a sizing handle to arrange it to be the size you want.

Sure thing. First, you click View > Pods > Single Source Layouts. Then double-click the Microsoft HTML Help layout to reveal the dialog and allow you to compile.

OK. I'm thinking you'd be able to achieve this via a HTML Help Control. Use the Insert > HTML Help Shortcut > Control menu item. I thinking you want to select the Image option on the Button tab (selecting an image of a PDF for example) and in the Shortcut tab specify the path to your Acrobat Reader executable. You'd have to specify the file to open, which could also be a Baggage File. I'm not quite sure what the program parameters would be for this, maybe just the file name? Hopefully someone else with some experience of this can come to your aid.
