    Can't Edit in Adobe Soundbooth

    FutureUSAFPilot Level 1

      Hi everyone,

I have run into a problem...

When I select "edit in adobe soundbooth", then change my audio, quit soundbooth (saving work), then the modified audio is now in my audio track, and also as a separate file in the project panel.  Super.

BUT, if I need to adjust my audio again, the "Edit in Adobe Sounbooth" option is no longer available.

      Are my eyes decieving me?

      Please help.

After you have selected an audio clip and applied:
          > Edit in Adobe Soundbooth > Render and Replace
a new .wav file is created and sent to Soundbooth,
and replaces your original audio on the Premiere timeline.

Once you have finished your work in Soundbooth, save and exit,
the changes you made are written to the "...Audio Extracted" .wav file.

These changes are hard-written to the "...Audio Extracted" .wav file,
and the audio changes are updated in your Premiere timeline.

In windows explorer, you can right-click the "...Audio Extracted" .wav file,
and select > Open with > Adobe Soundbooth CS5
You can add additional audio tweaks, but you can not undo any
of the changes you have previously made in Soundbooth.

Once you have finished your additional work in Soundbooth, save and exit,
the changes you made are written to the "...Audio Extracted" .wav file,
and the audio changes are updated in your Premiere timeline.

            Thanks Joe,

            That's helpful... I think.

But it makes no sense to me... why not just *always* have "Edit in Adobe Soundbooth" available...?

In essence, Adobe has created a "Edit in Soundbooth... but you only get one shot at it" tool (without resorting to the other less direct method you describe).

            It's rather disappointing

Now, I notice that I have the "Edit in Soundbooth" option available for this audio file as it is presented in the Project pane... can I launch the soundbooth session from there, and get the results you describe?  Or must I go into windows explorer, locate the file (no idea where it is, frankly), and then launch Soundbooth from there?

There is a distinctly unprofessional feel about this situation.

            (sorry, I'm new to Premiere)

That's correct.  Soundbooth opens, edits, and saves modifications directly to the .wav file.

Soundbooth is a nifty "quick fixer" and not much else.

For more flexibility than that, you need Audition.

              Yes.
