help with embedded .swf - want a splash image

New user here, maintaining a website I did not create, without fully understanding all of the code - so please forgive if this is the wrong place to post this question.

I have the following code in the body of an html page. The code works properly, and automatically shows the designated flash movie (videos/AppsSlideShow1.swf) when the page is first loaded.

However, sometimes the movie takes a bit too long to start playing, leaving a big white space on the page. I want to display a still image as a "splash image" until the .swf is ready, and then have the .swf start to play automatically when ready.

I'm pretty sure it's just a single line inserted to define the splash image, but I can't seem to find the right place to even start looking for help on this.

      Help anyone?
