b_gossweiler Apr 15, 2011 7:37 PM (in response to Bent Nielsen)What preview size have you imported with? Have you waited long enough before disconnecting the originals for the previews to be built in the background?
I would reconnect the originals and perform "Render Standard Size Previews" or "Render 1:1 Previews" on all the images before you disconnect again.

2. Re: Good and bad previews
Bent Nielsen Apr 16, 2011 10:47 AM (in response to b_gossweiler)I use preview size 1024 px, medium quality. Mac ( screen 1440 px) was left connected to original files for two hours after import finished. This should be ample time for only 50 raw files.
"Render Standard Size Previews" does the trick, but should not be necessary each time I add images to LR. So I wonder why some previews are fine and most are not.

3. Re: Good and bad previews
b_gossweiler Apr 16, 2011 11:56 AM (in response to Bent Nielsen)If you import with "Minimal" size previews at import, or if your standard preview size is too small (and 1024 is rather small for a 1440pixel monitor), you will not get good enogh previews by importing for a fit view. Only the previews of images you have had a closer look at while the external was still connected will have a sufficient size then. Increase the preview size to 1440 and render standard size previews upon import, and you'll be fine for fit view.

4. Re: Good and bad previews
Bent Nielsen Apr 16, 2011 3:09 PM (in response to b_gossweiler)The import size setting is not the culprit: as stated, about 20% of the images appear just fine, and the 80% that don't look so good, they are grossly pixelated.

How do you know? Have you tried importing as I suggested?

Bent Nielsen Apr 16, 2011 3:26 PM (in response to b_gossweiler)I haven't tried just yet, but I think I know that the pixel import size isn't the problem, as 20% of the previews are absolutely just fine, no problem whatsoever. And the majority of the images that don't show up so well, they are grossly, grossly pixelated, also when viewed very small and at 1:4.

Bent Nielsen Apr 16, 2011 3:36 PM (in response to b_gossweiler)"Render 1:1 Previews" is used.
