HDD Configuration Guidance in Premiere Elements

    wb_martin Level 1

      Good day,

I am finishing building a new system after hanging out/learning over in the Premiere Pro Hardware Forums (highly recommended for all), and am just wondering whether the drive configuration guidance for PrP is the same as for PrE?

My system configuration is as follows:

ASUS Rampage III Formula; Intel Core i7-980X; Corsair Hydro Series H70; GSkill, 24GB F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL, DDR3-1600-PC3-12800, CORSAIR CMPSU-1200AX; Evga GeForce GTX 470; Pro;CoolerMaster HAF-X

      Drives:

      O/S: Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1, V0006; Win7-64

Areca 1880-ix-16 SAS PCI RAID Card-6Gb/s:

      RAID0: 2x WD740GD, 70GB, SATA, 10kRPM,

      RAID3: 3x 2 TB WD RE4;

      Storage/Backup:  ExternalUSB Drives and BR-R/W

I have the following preferences for scratch disks set in PrE:

      Captured video: RAID0

      Captured Audio: RAID0

      Video Preview: O/S SSD

      Audio Preview: O/S SSD

      Media Cache: RAID3

      Disc Encoding: O/S SSD

I have noticed that captured miniDV tapes play slower than I would have thought they would and suspect non-ideal configuration of the various scratch disks.  I'm not adverse to adding an additional RAID0 on the ARECA controller.

      Thanks in advance!

      Bill
