    Syncing Clips

      Hi

I'm editing my first 'DVD' after shooting all of the footage myself.  I used a Canon XHA1 as the main camera and a Panasonic SD700 for cutaways and closeups.  The SD700 uses AVCHD, not sure what the XHA1 uses, but it's both HD.

The footage is basically a demonstration of a craft type project.  The presenter\craftsperson remains in the same position throughout.  So I used the XHA1 as a kind of 'key' camera and the lapel mic goes into it for the main audio.  The 2 cameras where not sync'd when recording in any way.  I was stopping one camera, then stopping the other and likewise with recording.  To make matters more complicated, sometimes I left one camera rolling while I stopped and repositioned the other.

So on the timeline, the XHA1 footage is used throughout and the SD700 footage added as small cuttaway shots every few minutes or so.  At the moment I am manually syncing the 2 cameras on the timeline by matching the audio.  I'm getting it pretty good, but it's time consuming.

This is what my timeline looks like:

I've tried to google this, but it's not sinking in (excuse pun).

          So what is your question?

            hmmmm

ideally you would shoot with the same type ( brand etc ) camera for everything ( same type and specs etc ) and just intercut your stuff..

sounds like you have to deal with the two things separately to some extent and then find a project setting that accomodates both for your final output...you need to put in specifics about dimensions and so on ( fps, interlaced or not etc etc ) about the 2 cameras ( plus deal with syncing each one's media separately...in other words have good "input" assets for chosen project ....)...

then maybe this will lead toward solving probs with final product

            ????
