Edius (ex Canopus) and Adobe stopped co-operating at around about Premiere CS. Before then, the Canopus DV Storm and Adode was a formidable combination. But in those days, Premiere was not a realtime NLE, so the DV Storm was the dog's b******s.
Nowadays it's more beneficial to put your money into the PC itself, (Xeon hex core or i7 and 12 MB+ ram) rather than a 3rd party card. Some of us do use a 3rd party card (Blackmahgic Intensity Pro) for preview reasons, not for performance benefits.
Look in the hardware forum for a good spec'd machine. I think Harm Millard may have started such a thread.

Start by reading the articles that show up when you press the overview tab at the top of the page and then scroll around and read posts that attract your attention. That will get you up to speed. Then look at the PPBM5 benchmark: http://ppbm5.com/index.html to see what other people use. In essence there is no need for a specific production card.
