You could just have it read an xml file where you store the information ( location,port,etc ) about your services.
We examine the URL that was used to load the SWF, and build our http service URL based on that for our 'browser based' flex applications. For our AIR applications, we provide the use a 'key' that is decoded to derive the URL, and that key is stored in encrypted local storage. I'm not making any claims of strong security for this, it is more like locking your car door. A thief who wants your car is going to get it, but it will deter the less determined.
Thanks for the reply but the service calls are setup in the 'Connect to Data/Service' wizard, no code exists in the app. This stores the configuration in a .fml file in the .model folder.
