Trying to import a 32bit .RPF sequence from 3ds Max produces this error:
This file format has not yet been revised to draw into float worlds

I found this thread from '09 that suggests there might be a problem
with the import of 32bit .RPF and .RLA files from Max:
I have re-rendered at 16bit, and there is no error on import.
Are 32bit .RPF files not supported in Ae?
