Making air javascript calls from website

I've created an Air Application that for the most part is just a browser window for my website application.  Which works fine.  However, I was wanting to look into adding some air javascript calls from the the web site, but they don't seem to work once the application window is nolonger on the local computer.  Is there any way to get around this?

Basicly, what I am wanting to do is catch that the application is getting closed and perform some database maintenance prior to it closing.

      Another question:

I am staring with a local html file, then having that page redirect to a website address by location.href javascript.  Is there anyway to have it go back to the local pages from the website pages.

Thanks for any help.  I am a newbie to AIR.
