    Lingo tooltip ?

    hwa-jun yu Level 1
Is there some plugin or patch or xtra that could produce tooltip when we insert syntax or functions in Lingo ?

Before getting into director, I've been using VB and flash. Both have tooltip.
It is such a pain to go coding Lingo without tooltip. Especially when I make public function that I want to share with other group members in a certain project.

      anyone has any ideas?

You're probably looking for the getBehaviorDescription handler or the
          getBehaviorTooltip behavior.

If you look at a handler in the Library Palette, you'll see examples of
          them.

On Mac Classic, you can use the Autocomplete Xtra, but that has not been upgraded to Mac OSX or ported to Windows.

Theoretically, you could write a Movie In A Window (MIAW) in Director which would parse the scriptText of the Script member that is currently selected in the Cast window. This would not act as a tooltip as such, but it could give information on the handlers in the Script. There may be undocumented Lingo that you can use to determine where the insertion point is within the Script member. If so, you could include an Paste button in the MIAW which would insert the selected text from the MIAW into the Script.

You might like to subscribe to the mmxdk mailing list, for developers of xtras for Director: Xtra Developers List. I'm sure that someone there will be able to point you in the right direction.

              Nope.
              That's not what I mean.

              I'll put an example.
In Flash, if we type :
              _root.play(
a yellow rectangle describing play's syntax parameter, "MovieClip.play()" will pop-up.

I don't find such tooltip in Director.
This is only little coding issue, but still I feel irritated to see other programming editor have this feature while Director don't.
I wonder if future release of Director will have such feature?

                Sorry.
